Good morning from China! Well, "good evening" to all of you! (Cindy, I know you like that comment!)
We all are still adjusting to the time difference, so everyone's sleeping hours are crazy. Right now everyone is awake, except Joshua! He is snoozing peacefully in his crib. He has slept all night both nights now, taken great naps during the afternoon and has eaten everything he has been given! He has cried once, for about a minute when I put him down for his nap yesterday. Then he drifted off to sleep and slept 2 1/2 hours. He is used to having a baby in the crib with him, so maybe he is enjoying being able to stretch out some! We are so thankful for the fact that things have gone so smoothly these last couple of days. I'm sure he still may be confused, and I know we will see some more emotions from him as time goes on, but for now, we are praising God for His goodness to us with a calm, easy transition.
Today should be a lengthy day since this is when we travel to Luoyang, the city where his orphanage is. We have about a 2 1/2 hour drive there. We have to apply for his passport so we can take him out of this country next week! Then I think we will go to the orphanage or at least drive by it so we can see where he was. There is another couple in our travel group whose little boy is being adopted from the same place, so we will all travel there together today.
The afternoon also holds great anticipation of something very amazing that God has just revealed to us within the last few hours. I am astounded at how He holds every detail of each of our lives so perfectly together. He is the Master Weaver, no doubt. I will keep you all in suspense until I know more to share with you later - because I know so little of it to share right now. Looking forward to the day. Please pray for safe travels there - the driving around here is CRAZY!

Well, God is so faithful! We are now the parents of Joshua Caleb ZanBo Williams! To His Great Name be all praise and glory!
I was totally confused about the morning. Based on something I had read previously I thought we all had to travel where our child was. That is another day for paperwork that we go to the city they were from. All 6 families in our group traveled together to the registration office where our children were delivered to us. We had been there probably about 30 minutes when Joshua was brought through the door. I was scurrying around trying to get my camera to another mom to video the events. He came in and we were so excited to see him! He is precious! I was prepared with a truck and a couple of other things, so I talked to him for a minute, then handed him the truck. He immediately took it! I reached out and grabbed him from the nanny, and he came to me without fussing or anything. I was so thankful!
Joshua is very, very tiny. He is 27 months old, but probably about the size of a healthy 3-4 month old. He was wearing clothes that were way too big, and had on some very interesting shoes! We went and sat down, and he never made a sound. He just kept looking all around, checking out everything that was going on. There was paperwork to sign, so Chad and I took turns holding him, then Hannah just had to have her turn! I have had to pry him away from that girl today! But I'm so thankful that her and Matthew both have taken to him just like he has been around for a long time! They were both very helpful today throughout all of the events, and I couldn't have imagined this trip without having them here.
I know there is some severe malnutrition and delays with him, and we will have some challenges ahead. One of the workers asked me if we knew all that, and if we were ok with it, since we had not had a report about him in such a long time, almost as if - are you sure you want him? He is our son, handpicked by God to be part of our family - how in the world could I not want him?
I've thought alot today about the identity description of him that was written on our "Letter of Acceptance." It said, "Identity: institutionalized child whose birth parents cannot be ascertained."
Up until today, that is how he was viewed, that was his identity. But with papers signed, and more being signed in the morning, he now has a new name, an identity. He belongs to a family. It made me think about my identity before I was adopted by God. I was "dead in my trespasses and sins...by nature an object of wrath." But God...made me alive in Christ! I'm so thankful that in love, he predestined me to be adopted as His child. He gave me a new identity in Christ Jesus! Wow, what a wonderful Father!
Here are a few pictures of the day. It has been an absolute smooth transition - he has barely made a sound! He has whimpered maybe once. I know that there will be some adjustments made, but God will faithfully guide us along the way. Thanks for taking the time to share this with us!

Hello again - this time from Zhengzhou! I was too tired to post anything last night, so I'll give a run-down on yesterday's events.
We had a great day Saturday as we toured a few more places in Beijing. We started off at a jade factory, seeing lots of sculptures and jewelry - amazing work by gifted people. Our guide told us how their workers spend many hours sculpting and carving to get things just right. A couple of interesting things we saw...
That last one just made me chuckle...
Then we headed to The Great Wall and spent a couple of hours there. It was amazing to see such a place, as well as difficult to climb the many, many steps! I had joked before we left home that I would probably pass out by about the 10th step. I made farther than that, but it wasn't long before I was puffing pretty hard. The good news is that there were plenty of other people huffing and puffing right along beside me! The steps are hard to climb because they are so uneven. So you definitely have to hold on to the handrail. But to me, coming down was the hardest! Hannah and I went a good little ways up, but Chad and Matthew went on farther than we did. It was a very neat experience, and one I won't soon forget. Hannah and Matthew enjoyed it as well.
We left the Great Wall and went to eat at a nearby restaurant for lunch. The food was good. We've eaten lots of meat and veggies, noodles and rice. But this is the most interesting thing we've been served since we've been here...
Then we left there to go by to see the Olympic Park where the 2008 games were held. I just have to say that the driving in Beijing could be an Olympic sport! Our bus driver gave me no fewer than a dozen heart attacks yesterday. But praise the Lord, nothing happened - we were safe!
We then went to a Chinese acrobatic show. Talented people, some of which can do some very interesting things. Of course, alot of the show was dare devilish, which racked my already frazzled nerves. Between the bus driver and the show, I was in need of a sedative! We went back to the hotel and packed up things to be ready to head out this morning.
We left Beijing this morning and had a nice, not too long of a flight from there to Zhengzhou, which is in the Henan Province. It's been a pretty low key day. We settled into the hotel, got instructions from our new guide Rita about tomorrow. Then us and our new friends Stephen and Jennifer walked down to Wal-Mart. Let me just tell you, there is no adventure anywhere like that. The traffic and cazy driving of Beijing does not compare to Zhengzhou! Cars and buses everywhere. Mopeds and bikes all over the place. And all of them want to go at the same time. It was pure entertainment to watch. And Wal Mart in any country is always an adventure. This one is on 3 different floors with an escalator that's flat so you can roll your cart right on up or down with you to the next floor. In Beijing, alot of things were in English, probably because of lots of tourism. Here, hardly anything is in English. I could barely figure out what anything was. I never even found a couple of things on my list. There were people everywhere!
I'm looking at the time right now - 11:05 p.m. here...11:05 a.m. at home. Boy am I missing Calvary Baptist Church right now! I pray God graces you with His presence in a mighty way. I will miss the music, the opening of the Word and the fellowship of brothers and sisters in Christ. We had a sweet time of fellowship and prayer with Stephen and Jennifer this evening. Their little boy is in the same orphanage Joshua is in, so we will travel together with them tomorrow to get both boys.
In less than 12 hours, we will be on our way to where he is. It is all coming together - just as God ordained it would and provided for it to be. We will leave the hotel at 9:30 in the morning (that's 9:30 Sunday night back home). We have about a 2 hr. drive to the meeting place - where for the first time we will lay eyes on our little Joshua Caleb. Our adoption agency rep. earlier handed each family an information sheet about the child to be adopted. We had not received any information about him since last August, so I had no idea what to expect. There are hundreds of children in this orphanage, so we're still not sure if all of this information is fully correct about him. But a couple of things sound like God has picked just the right one for us... Apparently, he still can't walk yet. But that's ok, because big sister Hannah will want to tote him around for a while anyway! I have no doubt she'll make sure he's taken care of. And of all things for them to mention - he loves toy cars. Well, big brother Matthew has that covered - he has plenty to share!
I began to pack a few things a little bit ago - things I haven't packed in a long time - diapers, wipes, Gerber puffs, along with the sweet blanket from Laurie and the one Hannah made for him. I'm not really nervous right now, I guess because of the way I've seen God work all this out. I know the times He and I have shared together on this journey these last few years. I've heard His voice, I've seen Him work, and I know He will be with us tomorrow. Please pray for us these next few hours. Pray especially for these 6 children that will be handed over tomorrow to arms that have longed for them for quite some time. I'm so thankful to the Lord for this journey - oh, how I love Him! Thank you to all who have supported us and encouraged us along the way. We are eternally grateful.
I better get to bed and rest up for a God appointed, life changing day!

We made it to our hotel about 2:00 this morning. We got up to our room and could not figure out how to turn the lights on! Chad had to go down to the front desk to ask how to turn them on. You have to insert your room card into a little slot in the wall, then you can turn the lights on. We crashed shortly after that.
There is only one outlet in our room that works with our plugs. As I was getting ready this morning, I went to plug my hair dryer in - there were sparks, a huge POW and then no lights! I blew a fuse. Maintenance came up here, flipped the switch and fixed everything. I would not have wanted to tour China with hair that had not been properly poofed!
We enjoyed a great day of sight-seeing in Beijing. We took a rikshaw ride through some of the older courtyard houses. We met a man who told us some of his story and history while our tour guide interpreted. We went to a silk factory/store and were taught how they make silk. Also toured Tienemen Square and the Forbidden City . It was neat hearing all of the history, and seeing buildings that are hundreds of years old that were built without any machines or power tools whatsoever! Our tour guide, who is also our adoption agency representative, set up a lunch for our group at a restaurant and it was delicious!
Hannah and Matthew were "celebreties" today while we were out... We were standing still, listening to our tour guide explain something. All of the sudden these two Chinese teenagers came up and grabbed Hannah, one of them took her sunglasses, placed them on her head and posed for someone to take a picture with her! She was astounded by that! A little while later we were taking a little snack break. Matthew was standing by himself on a little ledge, eating his juice pop and this Chinese lady came up, put her little boy beside him so she could take a picture of them together! Must be the reddish hair....
Tomorrow we head to the Great Wall.
Thank you to everyone who has been and is continuing to pray for us. God is so very good and faithful. We have seen that in our experience, and also as we've talked to the others in our travel group. There are 3 families here now in our group, and I believe another one will join us tomorrow. We all have different stories and experiences, but share one faithful God and a desire to do His will.

With the help of a computer whiz in our travel group, I am now able to get online to give an update from China! I thought first I would share a few thoughts I had while we were on the way here...
May 30th, 9a.m.
Well, we are high in the skies right now on the way to Chicago. It was raining pretty steadily when we left RDU, but up above the clouds it is nothing but bright CAROLINA blue skies and lots of sunshine!
Matthew and I are seated together right behind the wall that separates the first class folks from the commoners, so we had lots of room to move and stretch! Hannah and Chad didn't fare so well, but our flight was smooth and we had no problems. We sat with a very kind lady who let Matthew have her window seat...pretty exciting for a seven year old boy who was flying for the first time! I've enjoyed seeing his excitement as we started going really fast down the runway, then soared into the air.
I am still so astounded that this day is here. I knew it would come because I know my God is faithful to complete what He begins in the lives of His children. I am thankful for the grace He gave us to remain on this path. There is nothing in me that would have persevered, but His Spirit in me gives me grace. Thank you, Lord, for calling us to this. Thank you for the strength you have given to run the race. Thank you for the glimpse you've given me into how much you loved me and desired to make me your own. I praise your great and glorious Name!
We had about a 3 hour layover in Chicago. We grabbed some lunch and did some people watching - which is always entertaining. It's now about 3p.m., and the four of us are currently crammed like sardines in the middle row of a huge plane, but I'm glad we're all together. We are enjoying our "complimentary" pretzel sticks and drink! There is probably another 13 or more hours to hang suspended in the big blue sky. As I've looked out the window today, I've been reminded of Isaiah 40:12... "with the breadth of His hand He marked off the heavens..." When I look out, as far as my eyes can see, I see this beautiful sky, I think about how big my God is. If His hand is big enough to mark off the heavens, surely He is big enough to handle any challenges that may arise in these next couple of weeks. I'm also assured that His hand is holding my little boy, keeping him safe and protected until we can get there to meet him and hold him close. He is so good!

It's been a full day as we've tried to make the final preparations to leave for China. I can hardly believe the time is here. I am excited, anxious and overwhelmed at what God has accomplished!
I thought I would post our schedule that we'll be on for the next few weeks. I will post when I can - if I can from China. Please keep us in your prayers while we are away. Pray especially for Joshua as he transitions to a whole new world, with everything and everyone so different from all that he knows. We trust God will continue to guide us as we seek His face in the coming weeks.
We give great glory to God and thank Him for the support, encouragement, generosity and prayers that have been bestowed upon our family. He has been so faithful to lead us on this journey, and we are truly thankful for the things He has taught us along the way. We pray that God alone receives all glory, honor and praise for the great things He has done!

Mon. June 11th - Bus to clinic for Joshua’s physical, then Visa photo
Tues. June 12th - Meet adoption agency reps to check & complete US Consulate paperwork
Wed. June 13th - Back to clinic to check physical tests
Thurs. June 14th - US Consulate Appointment, Take oath in afternoon
Fri. June 15th - Receive Joshua’s visa packet. Depart Guangzhou via train to Hong Kong.
Sat. June 16th - Depart Hong Kong for Chicago, on to Raleigh, then Home, Sweet Home!
Please keep us in your prayers while we are away. Pray especially for Joshua as he transitions to a whole new world, with everything and everyone so different from all that he knows. We trust God will continue to guide us as we seek His face in the coming weeks.
We give great glory to God and thank Him for the support, encouragement, generosity and prayers that have been bestowed upon our family. He has been so faithful to lead us on this journey, and we are truly thankful for the things He has taught us along the way. We pray that God alone receives all glory, honor and praise for the great things He has done!
